5 First Time Home Buyer Tips and Advice from Previous HomeOwners in Lansing Michigan and Dewitt MI

As a first time home buyer, there's many things that you want to consider before you purchase. Here's a top 5 list of suggestions and advice from previous sellers and homeowners. First, write a list of everything you want in your new home. For example, how many bedrooms would you like? How many full or half bathrooms? How much square footage do you want for you? Remember to look ahead into the the future. so if you plan on having kids, you may want a bigger house with three bedrooms. How about a finished basement? Open floor plan or open concept? Large kitchen with an island or bar? What school district? Is it important to have a front porch or a back deck with a staircase? Do you need a fenced backyard for pets or children? Once you have your list, decide which items are top priority or most important. This will come in handy in case you fall in love with a house that only has 4 out of 5 things on your list. Ask yourself, "What can you live without? What items on my list am I willing to sacrifice?" Two, attend open houses. Why should I? Because there's no pressure from anyone to buy. All you have to do is show up, grab a flyer, walk around the house and then leave. Sometimes neighbors come by to check out the house and this is a great time to ask them questions about the community, neighborhood. Three, be honest with your REMAX Real Estate Agent up front. Ask questions, tell them what type of home or condo you want. Don't expect the realtor to "guess" what kind of house you want. They can't read your mind. Be patient with your realtor. If you have questions about a particular property, your realtor will get you the answer to you but it may take a day or two. What you may not realize is that your realtor communicates with the listing agent (the agent who listed the house for sale) and if they don't have your answer yet, it's because they haven't heard back yet from the listing agent. Four, schedule home tours a few at one time. In other words, when you tell your realtor which homes you want to see, then your realtor will schedule an appointment for you to tour the homes. But it's very important to remember to keep it to a minimum of 4 houses or less in one night. Touring more than 3 or 4 homes at one time can be overwhelming and stressful. Five, be prepared for the unexpected. For example, if you put an offer on a house that you absolutely love, and it's a good deal, then chances are another prospective buyer has also placed a bid on that house as well. Do not be disappointed if your offer is rejected or someone else gets the house. Believe in coincidence and faith. Your perfect house is still waiting for you . . .
